[NEWS] Tisdale takes cheerleading lessons from mom

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Actress Ashley Tisdale is taking cheerleading lessons from her mother Lisa for her new television series ‘Wildcats’.

‘I was never a cheerleader but luckily my mom was and she’s been giving me some great tips. It’s hard, but I’m really enjoying it and it’s a great way to keep fit. In fact, I’ve never been so fit!’ femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.

The 25-year-old ‘High School Musical’ star has previously admitted her mother is the biggest influence in her life.

‘My mom is very confident and she was always a role model of mine. I never really looked up to celebrities when I was young. I definitely work hard at stuff. I never give up on things. If I’m going to do something, I’m going to go a hundred per cent into it – just like my mom.’

[NEWS] Ashley toasts Miley Cyrus on #MusicMonday

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Really, you should be listening to music every day, but thanks to Twitter, Monday has become the best day of the week to discover new songs, show some love to the tune currently dominating your iPod playlist and quietly judge the listening habits of your closest friends. Yes, it’s #MusicMonday, one of Twitter’s most enduring trending topics. Hence “MTV News’ #MusicMonday,” a weekly look at the songs your favorite stars are currently crushing on.

This week, Ashley Tisdale shouts out the latest hit from Miley Cyrus.

24-year-old actress and pop star Ashley Tisdale has already had plenty of chart success herself (both as a solo artist and as a member of the cast of “High School Musical”), so she knows her way around a killer pop hook. So on this #MusicMonday, Tisdale will be cranking up the latest single from 17-year-old phenom and fellow Disney Channel actress-turned-pop-maven Miley Cyrus.

“[I love] ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ by Miley Cyrus. I said ‘Music Monday’ because it’s Miley. M-M-M!” Tisdale told MTV News’ Jocelyn Vena at the upfront presentation for the CW network. “I think it’s great. It’s got a great beat, it’s got a great hook. I love it.”

Cyrus’ latest hit (which has only just begun its assault on the charts) is from her forthcoming album of the same name, which is due out on June 18. According to Cyrus, it will be the last pop album she produces for a while, as she wants to focus on movies (perhaps an excellent decision, as her latest film “The Last Song” was a major box office hit).

[NEWS, HELLCATS] ‘Hellcats character isn’t mean’

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Ashley Tisdale has revealed that her character in new show Hellcats is a nice person.

The show, which follows a group of cheerleaders, was picked up by The CW earlier this month.

Tisdale explained that her role as the head cheerleader Savannah is completely different from her High School Musical character Sharpay.

“[Savannah's] not a mean girl,” she told Zap2It. “She’s not a mean girl. But she’s also not like the girl… I play Maddie on The Suite Life [of Zack & Cody] – she’s kind of the sarcastic, down-to-earth girl, working girl and Sharpay was the mean girl.

“You think Savannah’s going to be mean, but she really actually isn’t. She means well, she’s just a little bit off… She’s definitely off. I mean, she’s the captain of the cheerleaders. She’s a flyer up on the top of the pyramid. You have to be a little bit off to do that.”

[NEWS] Ashley to star in “The Last First Time”?

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Our conversation veered wildly off topic before it actually began, as you’ll see. And even after we got back on track, Jason kept things light while talking about his Home Depot-esque Haftorah portion, Ashley Tisdale music and how bad breakups are extremely beneficial.

PopWrap: “Holy Rollers” covers a subject rarely seen on the big screen.
Jason Fuchs: We’re hoping to do well with Hasidic Jews and drug dealers

PW: Smart, Hollywood rarely focuses on those two markets.
Jason: They’re the two that Hollywood tends to miss. They talk about four quadrant, I think those are two important ones “Holy Rollers” will hit.

PW: It’ll be like after “Sex and the City” came out and suddenly people realized “whoa, women do go to movies.”
Jason: Exactly. We are hoping to the be “Avatar” of Hasidic drug dealing films.

PW: Then why aren’t there more blue people?
Jason: [laughs] Well, it was a low budget film. We couldn’t afford that many.

PW: Fair enough. So tell me, what drew you to this project?
Jason: I come from a Hasidic background, I am only one generation removed. And I’d never seen that community portrayed in such a realistic way. I thought it really captured that world in a special way. What’s also interesting is that while it explores the darker side of that world, it also ends up being a reaffirmation of that world. That to me was very important.

Sharpay

Disney Channel will shine the spotlight on High School Musical alum Sharpay Evans in a new original movie set for a summer 2011 premiere. Ashley will reprise the role of irrepressible HSM diva in the movie Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, as well as serve as executive producer of the film. In the movie, the Sharpay realizes her dream and moves to New York with her pet dog Boi after being discovered by a talent scout. Once there however, Sharpay quickly finds out that making it big in the Big Apple is not as easy as she thought and she has to temper her expectations somewhat if she’s going to thrive.
